WOMAN'S TRIAL ON DRUG CHARGE BEGINS

Waukesha - A driver had the drug oxycodone in her system when her Jeep was
struck by another vehicle and her fiance was killed, a prosecutor told a
jury Tuesday.

As Kelly Pfau, 28, of Milwaukee was treated at a hospital, a police officer
also found 29 illegal OxyContin pills in her purse and a straw with drug
residue on it, Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher said during
opening remarks in Pfau's trial on a drug charge.

Bucher told jurors that Pfau was not at fault in the Oct. 27, 2001, crash
in Oconomowoc in which her fiance, David Carrao, 28, of West Allis, died.
But he urged jurors not to ignore Pfau's illegal drug possession.

Pfau is charged with possession of narcotic drugs as a habitual criminal.
She previously has been convicted of being a party to possession with
intent to deliver marijuana.
