LEARN FROM MAIN AND HASTINGS
Editor:
In his Dec. 31, pro-narcotics letter, Chris Buors suggests psychiatric
theory is the reason children experiment with drugs at an earlier age.
The real reason, however, is parental modelling and is evidenced in his letter.
Fifty years ago, people using drugs didn't do so in front of their
children. Kids didn't experiment with - in fact, didn't even encounter -
drugs until their late teens.
Today, however, many openly use drugs around their children. These children
falsely learn drugs are acceptable, even desirable, and they learn it in
their own homes.
Unfortunately, covert education isn't the sole source. Mr. Buors admits he
tells his children police, teachers and the press lie to them about drugs.
Furthermore, he and his friends actually coerce the kids into keeping it
secret by saying social services will apprehend them if they find out.
The depth of deception used to "educate" these children is amazing. They
even feign persecution, attributing it to religious people. Are drug users
persecuted? If so, is it unwarranted?
Dealers and users frequently assault others, vandalize personal property
and perform aggressive acts, such as drive-by shootings, to achieve respect
and fear. Users (not limited to pot) steal and some even prostitute
themselves to support their habit. Truly, there isn't one person in the
drug trade who doesn't perform some illegal action.
While it's true Jesus freed me from drug addiction, my views aren't
religious persecution. These statements actually relay 12 years experience
in drug-related interactions with thousands of people from here to
Vancouver. I've realized drugs merely counterfeit true God-given joy.
Let's teach truth: drugs sap motivation, cause illness and lead to crime,
violence and death; the only variables are time and peer relations.
True education is found on "Pain and Wastings" in Vancouver where people
simply wait to die.
