DRUG POTENCY CLAIM SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED
In his Feb. 1 letter, Jerome Kellner cites an "authority," Dr. Daryl Inaba,
who he claims has described today's marijuana as 1,400 times stronger than
the cannabis used in previous times. This is patently absurd and reflects
very poorly, in my mind, on your letter-selection process.
Federal drug czar John Walters was quoted in the Washington Post (May 1,
2002) asserting that marijuana potency was "10 to 20 times stronger than
that of a generation ago." This is also demonstrably false. Go on the
Internet and see www.drugwardistortions.org which cites statistics taken
from the Drug Enforcement Agency's Web site.
Rational consideration of the issues posed by the use of cannabis are
ill-served by ridiculous assertions like those in this letter.
