REPRESENTING HAWLEY
I kind of agree with Jim Parker's view that drug testing is an
invasion of privacy. I think everyone has the right to do what he or
she wants to do. I think if the school board were testing everyone,
then I would agree with it. But the board is testing only students in
extracurricular activities.
When a student commits to an extracurricular activity, that student is
now representing Hawley ISD. The school board wants to make Hawley a
better place, and doing this, it may work. All schools want the best
of the best representing them.
We all have to remember that extracurricular activities are a
privilege and not all students are in them. Being in an
extracurricular activity means you are participating in what is a
privilege, and I think it gives the school board the right to test the
students.
