SCALES OF JUSTICE OUT OF BALANCE:

There are no words to describe the contempt I have for illicit drugs and
the destruction they bring to countless lives. This is the same contempt I
have for politicians who misuse state tax money to enhance their own
positions. These taxes are paid by all black, white, rich and poor and
should benefit all state residents.

Adjacent articles on the front page of the Feb. 9 Birmingham News tell of a
young drug peddler who sold marijuana and a politician who misused more
than $8 million of badly needed state funds. One received a 26-year prison
sentence, and one was recently re-elected to the state Senate by his
apathetic and ignorant constituents. Guess which is which.

With this type of "justice," can Alabama be far from total anarchy? Perhaps
our attorney general should quit waiting for the call from Washington and
do the job he was elected to do. Both these actions should be thoroughly
investigated and corrected.
