STRONG POT STAND URGED
ST. James-Assiniboia school board wants trustees across Canada to demand
that Ottawa get tougher on marijuana laws, education committee chair Sandra
Paterson-Greene said yesterday.
Greene said her committee brought forward a resolution -- adopted by the
board for next month's Manitoba Association of School Trustees convention --
to "take a resolution to the Canadian School Boards Association that the
relaxation of the laws on marijuana is really a bad thing."
"It's like (Ottawa is) saying to kids who do drugs, 'It doesn't really
matter'," she said.
Ottawa may be telling kids that marijuana possession and use are not a big
deal, but in St. James-Assiniboia School Division, "You're going to get
kicked out of our schools," she said.
