COMMISSION FINISHES REVIEWING JUDGE GILBERT CASE
TRAVERSE CITY - A lawyer for District Judge Thomas Gilbert, who admitted to
smoking marijuana at a rock concert last fall, says the state Judicial
Tenure Commission has finished reviewing Gilbert's case.
The commission does not publicly discuss its proceedings, but Gilbert's
attorney Michael Dettmer told city officials this week that the judicial
board has completed its review of Gilbert's incident and has forwarded its
report to the state Supreme Court. The state's high court has the final say
on sanctioning of Michigan judges for misconduct.
Dettmer said it's possible that the Supreme Court could announce a decision
within 60 to 90 days. He also defended the judicial oversight process in
Michigan, which has come under some criticism during the Gilbert case by
area residents and officials. Commission finishes reviewing Judge Gilbert
