RESPONSIBILITY IS THE ISSUE
RE YOUR editorial, "Pot: Time for a national debate" (Feb. 24): How about we
add a death penalty debate as well? For example, anyone who is under the
influence of either alcohol or pot while operating a motor vehicle and kills
someone should forfeit his life. Taxes are not the issue, responsibility is.
If all persons who smoke pot or consume alcohol are willing to sign an
agreement that they are willing to take full responsibility for any criminal
acts they may commit while impaired, I say go for it. As it is now, you can
kill, rape, steal, etc. and get a reduced sentence or no sentence at all
because your use of alcohol is a mitigating factor. I think anyone should be
able to do anything he wants provided he is willing to take responsibility
for his actions.
