SCHOOLS, NOT PRISONS
It is sickening that Gov. Gray Davis has been bought off by the prison
guards union to the extent that his is sacrificing our schools in
favor of prisons (Opinion, Feb. 24).
It is time to quit wasting tax dollars incarcerating non-violent drug
law offenders and other non-violent criminals for long periods of
time. It is time to find alternative ways to sentence, rehabilitate
and educate these people so they can become productive members of society.
A well-funded school and college system is the first step in this
process. To this end, it is time for the people of California to tell
the governor what we expect him to do.
