DRUG EDUCATION
Mt. Prospect -- Three cheers to Henry White for his Feb. 13 letter to the
editor, "Replace DARE with effective drug education."
As a teenager, I'm exposed to drug education nearly every day. (Meanwhile my
school's arts department is left to rot, but that's another story.) Much of
what I see is highly inaccurate and ineffective, particularly a series of
commercials that have aired regarding marijuana.
The idea that marijuana is bad because some of the money spent on it might
indirectly fund terrorism is hypocritical. Did anyone mention that we buy
oil from countries that support terrorism? I don't see any commercials
telling you not to use that. When people lie or distort information about
drugs, it leads others to disbelieve the real harm they cause.
