PUBLIC URGED TO DRIVE OUT DRUG DEALERS
HUDDERSFIELD people were today handed a vital role in ridding the town of
its drug dealers.
A scheme was launched this morning which gives everyone the chance to help
police arrest dealers.
In short, senior officers have said to everyone: "Give us good information
and we will act on it."
The scheme, called Dob In A Dealer, has been successful in other areas of
West Yorkshire, but is being used in Huddersfield and Dewsbury for the first
time.
Police will act on tip-offs given to Crimestoppers by people phoning in with
the names of drug dealers and where they operate in Kirklees.
The scheme will be boosted when a special squad is set up. Its single role
will be to act on information coming in through Dob In A Dealer.
Huddersfield police commander Chief Supt John Holt said: "If you know
someone dealing in this evil trade, phone Crimestoppers anonymously. We want
dealers' names, not yours."
Crimestoppers is on 0800 555 111.
