CONGRESS MUST ACT ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Yes, "doctors must speak out on medical marijuana," read the headline on a
letter in the Observer on Feb. 13, but so must Congress.

Cannabis has been documented for more than 5,000 years of medicinal use,
still with out a fatality.

Raphael Mechoulam and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and G.W.
Pharmaceuticals, working with THC, cannabinoids and anandamides,
manufacturing rapid-onset cannabinoid delivery systems using cannabis/THC,
proves cannabis still has enormous medical value and potential.

Mechoulam's work proving that cannabis and THC does have medical value
discredits the federal U.S. government's Schedule 1 placement of cannabis,
claiming cannabis has no medical value.

Since cannabis does have "medical value," Congress must make rescheduling
cannabis legislation a priority. The crime of cannabis prohibition has
injured America long enough. Allowing citizens use of cannabis without
caging them is more important than killing humans in Iraq.

Congress must reclassify cannabis, allowing doctors to speak the truth
without persecution.
