FREE DRUG ADDICTS FROM THE DEALERS
It is heartening to see that former Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke's voice of
reason on drug treatment is still being raised ("Time for new tactics
in costly drug war," Opinion
Commentary, Feb. 24).
The ideas in his column show merit. I would also suggest that we try
to capture heroin and cocaine addicts from street dealers by offering
free, or low-cost, drugs of stable quality that are dispensed by
government clinics.
By doing this we could get a better handle on the addicted population
and their ever-present collateral diseases.
