OPEN DRUG USE NEEDS TO BE ELIMINATED FROM PARKS
I went to Kamaole Park III on the last weekend of February to have a picnic
with some of my friends. During our stay there I never witnessed more open
usage of illegal drugs than during my previous lifetime on this island.
In one instance, a mother I would guess was not yet in her 20s was holding
her 2-year-old, sucking them up and hitting on a pipe with a half a dozen of
her friends in the parking lot -- beers scattered on the roof of the car,
music playing loudly and with no concern about being seen indulging in their
disgusting habits. This is right in plain open sight to that house that
police use for whatever on the point.
February was to be the state's month for drug awareness and I have to say I
was very much aware of it there. I have been told by some people that the
police don't really care to do much on the small-scale use of drugs by
individuals. This is very obvious.
Why not take a half a day with some officers in plain clothes and do a sweep
with a small bit of surveillance through these parks and maybe we can enjoy
a afternoon in the park without my children seeing this, and do society a
favor. We need our parks cleaned up of this activity. We need our island
back.
