DRUG SUPERSTITION
Congratulations to Mike Seate for commenting on the sheer lunacy of
arresting people for selling drug "paraphernalia," such as books and smoking
pipes ("Head shop crackdown smokes out little guy," Feb. 28).
In addition to these arrests, the Drug Enforcement Administration is said to
have shut down several Web sites that promote ideas over which John Ashcroft
would like to throw a curtain.
It is outrageous, especially while we are allegedly under dire threat from
foreign enemies, that our federal government is spending our resources to
persecute dead-heads and medical marijuana patients and their caregivers.
Andrew Dickson White, first president of Cornell University, wrote, "The
last struggles of a great superstition are very frequently the worst."
Isn't it going around that Ashcroft is terrified of calico cats, believing
them to be devils?
