'WAR ON DRUGS' MISGUIDED, WASTE OF TAXPAYERS' MONEY

I am the founder of The Annie Appleseed Project, which provides Web-
based information for people with cancer. We have a large section of
studies and articles about the medical use of marijuana on our Web
site, www.annieappleseedproject.org. This letter is in support of
Judge Barry Cohen's comments on current methods of "fighting" against
drugs ("Judge questions police methods, effectiveness of drug war," May 4).

Marijuana should not be a schedule 1 drug, as many have noted. It has
medicinal properties and can be used in cancer, multiple sclerosis,
schizophrenia and many other ailments. Medical marijuana should be
explored fully, just like any other promising drug. Our "war on
drugs" is wasting taxpayers' money and has been for a long time.

Years ago, we got on the wrong path in "fighting" drugs, and we have
been unable to get off. Additionally, spraying chemicals on growing
fields in South America and other areas of the globe does nothing to
stop drugs and much to damage our planet.
