CAMROSE POLICE SERVICE CONTINUES FIGHT ON DRUGS IN COMMUNITY

The Camrose Police Service is committed to combat the use/abuse of illegal
drugs in our community. Since December 1, 2002, our targets have been
those associated with the use and distribution of methamphetamines. The
Service is working in partnership with the Drug Response Task Force in an
effort to educate the community and prevent the use of these drugs. Our
School Resource Program officer and D.A.R.E. instructors are providing up
to date information to the schools and students to allow them to make the
right choices in life.

Since that date, the Camrose Police Service has compiled intelligence and
investigated individuals suspected of being involved in the distribution of
methamphetamines in Camrose. As a result of these investigations, several
drug search warrants were executed and to date 14 persons have been
charged, the majority of whom are charged with trafficking related offences
carrying a penalty of up to 10 years in jail. During these investigations,
quantities of methamphetamines, cocaine and marihuana have been seized and
a marihuana grow operation was located.

Our investigators will continue to maintain a zero tolerance on illegal
drugs and bring those responsible before the courts. The list of persons
who have been charged since December 1, 2002, includes the names of
fourteen persons, including both men and women ranging in age from 18 to 32
years, plus a 16-year-old male.
