LSD MAKES A NATIONAL COMEBACK

The days of Timothy Leary and his "tune in, turn on, drop out" philosophy
may seem long ago, but LSD remains very much in the present.

While hardly the most-abused of drugs, the potent hallucinogen is
manufactured on the West Coast and can be purchased in virtually every
state, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

"We're seeing a resurgence in LSD," said Shirley Armstead, spokeswoman for
the DEA's regional office in St. Louis.

LSD began its comeback in the 1990s.

"Drugs in our country tend to recycle," Armstead said.

The increased popularity hasn't been as apparent in mid-America as in other
parts of the nation, she said.

A DEA analysis of drug trafficking in Kansas and Missouri barely touches on
LSD but does say it is available in the Kansas City area.

Methamphetamine manufacturing has been a major problem in mid-America
recently, and investigators say they spend a lot of their time on it.
