TV SPECIAL TO VIEW ISLE 'ICE' PROBLEM

Four Local Networks And PBS Hawaii Will Air The Half-Hour Show

Hawaii's crystal methamphetamine or "ice" epidemic will be featured in a
commercial-free, half-hour television special aired simultaneously in prime
time on all four local network affiliates and PBS Hawaii in August.

Local filmmaker Edgy Lee and producer Jeffrey Mueller are conducting the
film project, which Lee said will offer more than facts and statistics.

"We'll offer options and resources for the addict, the friend and family
member and the responsible community member."

PBS Hawaii also will carry a 30-minute "Town Square" discussion. Hawaii
leaders and substance abuse specialists will appear in the program.

The film will share stories of ice addicts, children of addicts and foster
parents who care for newborns of women ice addicts.

The film will reveal how the ice epidemic affects the community and is
linked to violent crimes, child, elder and spousal abuse, theft, rising
insurance and medical costs and other problems.

The project is funded through corporate, community and individual
contributions.

Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona is organizing an outreach program to make the
film available to schools, libraries, community groups and other
organizations. The educational video will have a teachers' viewers' guide
for classroom use.
