LEGALIZING DRUGS WOULD SAVE MONEY
We should be outraged at the lawlessness we see in this country
today, and we should be outraged at our government for its lack of leadership.
In the 1920s and 1930s, liquor was illegal and the country was full
of bootleggers. Gangs killed each other to gain control of the booze
market and they would stop at nothing.
It all ended abruptly when the government legalized it, regulated it
for safety, and taxed it. Instead of spending to stop it, the
government collects millions in tax money by legalizing it.
We all know drugs are readily available almost anywhere. Arrest one
dealer and another takes his place.
I believe we should legalize drugs, control the quality and
distribution and set it up much like the current liquor industry.
This would remove the gangster element, would save the government
billions of dollars spent trying unsuccessfully to control illegal
drugs, and provide billions in tax revenue.
It would save countless lives, greatly relieve our jails from drug
related incarcerations, and return us to a more safe and sane society.
