DRUG DEALER WHO PHONED POLICE TO BE SENTENCED

A Cape Breton drug dealer who phoned police after his stash was stolen will
be sentenced in Port Hawkesbury provincial court today.

David Doyle, 42, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana and trafficking,
during a February court appearance.

The charges date back to April 30, 2002, when Doyle reported a
break-and-enter at his Arichat home.

Const. Doug Ross of the Richmond County RCMP said Doyle told police that
someone had broken into his residence and made off with $400 in cash. But
investigators learned it was marijuana - not money - that was stolen after
they nabbed two young offenders who admitted to the crime.

"It's certainly an odd one," Ross said, noting the street value of the 29
grams of weed was about $400. "Realistically, if he had never reported the
break-and-enter, he wouldn't have been caught himself."

Doyle faces anything from a conditional sentence to life in prison under
the Criminal Code.
