DARTMOUTH JUDGE IS LATEST TO THROW OUT POT CHARGES
Dartmouth, N.S.-- Another drug case has ended because of controversy over
Canada's marijuana laws.
Provincial Court Judge Flora Buchan ruled yesterday that there is no valid
federal law in place governing simple possession of marijuana. She stayed
charges against Paula Clarke, accused of possessing a small amount of pot.
In 2000, the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled the drug law violated rights and
gave Parliament one year to revamp the law. Parliament has yet to make the
changes.
Since then, some charges in Ontario and PEI have been stayed. CP
