DRUGS DIDN'T CREATE CRIME

Thanks for publishing Stan Burnett's outstanding March 10 letter "Get rid
of drug prohibition."

I'd like to add that when Coca-Cola contained cocaine instead of caffeine,
the term "drug-related crime" didn't exist.

Neither did drug lords nor drug cartels. These were all created by our drug
prohibition policies -- not drugs.

Our government should intervene in people lives only when they harm others.
Not just potentially harm themselves.

Every justification for the criminalization of certain (politically
selected) drugs, can also be made for the criminalization of a long list of
potentially unhealthy foods.

Do we want our police arresting and jailing people for eating
cheeseburgers, french fries, chocolate or doughnuts? Hopefully not.

Do we want our police arresting each other for eating doughnuts? Maybe.
