DRUG TESTING IS THE ANSWER
Mark Morris is without a baseball program this year, and I put the blame
directly on the administration and the school board. Kids will always push
the rules, and the only real taboo is to snitch on your peers.
You can ask kids to sign any agreement not to do drugs and other forbidden
activities, but testing is the only sure way to stop drug use. Nationally,
one study of truck drivers had found about 3 percent tested positive for
drugs before mandatory random testing, and after mandatory testing was
started, positive tests dropped to under 1 percent.
It's time the school board not punish kids whose only crime is not being a
snitch. Impose mandatory drug testing on all students and faculty involved
in extracurricular activities immediately; it's only fair to the students
who follow the rules.
