CRYSTAL METH PRESENTATION IMPACTS STUDENTS

The message was loud and clear and the kids were listening!! Reports from
parents, and responses to evaluation survey questions, clearly indicate
that the students in grades 7 - 12 from Altario, Consort and Veteran "got
the message." Kerry Laberge,PACE Out-reach School - Camrose, and parent,
Yvonne and son Craig, presented hard hitting startling, and frightening
facts about the dangerous drugs, and specifically Crystal Meth, to 200
students and remained interested and attentive for 2 hours!

Survey

Question #1: What was the most important thing you learned from Kerry,
Yvonne or Craig about Crystal Meth? A sampling of unedited student answers
follow:

"Crystal Meth is becoming more and more popular in our area, and it is one
of the worst drugs to overcome."

"It screws with your body and mind. It's just not worth it."

"You can easily mess up your life and then never be able to quit."

"Don't even start on any drug because you will probably get hooked on it
and you might spend you life trying to get off it."

"That most people don't realize how easy it is for kids to find illegal drugs."

"People shouldn't start drugs - they can ruin your life. If you get caught
with drugs, or are selling drugs and get caught, you will go to jail, or
juvenile jail. Most people (including Craig) probably wouldn't have started
drugs if they knew what was in it, or if they knew what it did to you."

Question #2: What would you tell a friend or family member about Crystal
Meth to deter them from using, or to convince them to quit using?

"There are toxic poisons in it such as draino, battery acid, paint
thinners, muractic acid and brake fluid."

"It is very addictive; 46% addictive on the first try and 96% second try."

"It is bad, dirty stuff and very addicting."

"It messes up your life and messes with your head."

"There are nasty chemicals in it."

"I would tell them how the crystals (shards) come out of any pores in the
body, like out of your nose and tear ducts, the ends of your fingers, your
mouth, etc."

"Dealers will give it to you free to get you hooked so you have to buy from
them when you're hooked on it - maybe for life."

"If you do quit, 40 years later you might still have problems about it."

"IT will wreck your life and instead of living a normal life, you will
spend it trying rto save yourself from it."

"Even trying it once can make you addicted and the effects if it can be
physical and emotional. It cam be deadly and ruin your life - Don't do it!!"

"If you're offered it, say NO! Never Try Crystal Meth."
