THE CASES FOR AND AGAINST LEGALISING CANNABIS (1 OF 2)

HERBS and plants have long been used for their beneficial qualities.

Some plants have been found to have healing qualities. Aspirin, Digitalis
and some of the narcotic drugs found naturally in plants are now
synthetically manufactured.

The cannabis pant, which is a native of Asia, was introduced to Britain in
the 20th century. Some would have cannabis legalised, whilst others claim,
and have witnessed, that it leads to taking "hard" drugs and drug addiction.

It has been found helpful in the relief of some long-term illnesses.
However, recent press reports give the results of tests made by Professor
John henry, a toxicologist at Imperial College, London. They reveal that
cannabis could cause a four-fold increase in schizophrenia and depression.
Only recently, cannabis was discovered being smuggled into this country.
Surely this calls for tighter rulings on the availability of this drug.
