THE EVIDENCE OF DANGERS OF MARIJUANA IS SLIM

Letter-writer Vic Afsahi says, "I take the Constitution very seriously." If
he had read it, however, he would find that there is no place in the
Constitution that permits the federal government to regulate marijuana or
any other kind of drug.

The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution gives these powers to the states.
The state of California has said that marijuana may be used with a doctor's
recommendation. By regulating drugs, the federal government is in violation
of the Constitution.

I do not advocate the use of any drugs, I have never used drugs, nor do I
have any friends that I am aware of who use them. Marijuana may or may not
be all of the problems that Mr. Afsahi lists, but it is up to the states to
regulate it, not the federal government. Since the state of California has
made it legal to use marijuana as a medicine, the federal government is
commanded by the Constitution to leave us alone.
