DREAM COME TRUE FOR ORGANIZED CRIME

IT'S SAD to see a fine journal like The Toronto Sun becoming a pure medium
of propaganda with respect to the decriminalization of marijuana.

The fact is, according to your own survey (April 28), most Canadians are
against decriminalization for recreational use (43% would approve only
medicinal use and 14% are against any softening of the law).

But the real argument against decriminalization is that it would only
benefit organized crime.

On one hand, producing the drug will remain illegal and, on the other hand,
the government will be sending the message there is nothing wrong with
buying marijuana.

This is a dream come true for organized crime: a society which sends the
message that it's only a minor offence to give money for a drug and which
at the same time keeps its production illegal and in the hands of criminals!

After decriminalization, a recreational user will still be no better than,
say, a courier transporting drugs for the Hells Angels. Both will be
supporting organized crime for their own personal benefit.

(The answer, then, would be not just to decriminalize simple possession,
but to legalize pot. Somehow, we don't think you'd like that either)
