DRUG DEALERS BEING WATCHED CLOSELY
People doing illegal activities like drug-dealing in Cumberland are
being watched closely -- and the village's residents' association
said they hope it makes them uncomfortable.
That's the purpose behind a recent door-to-door campaign where
residents and RCMP officers visited homes in areas where reported
drug activity is happening and handed out letters about how they can
help to stop it.
The information included log sheets to help neighbours record
information of people, vehicles and activity at the house. The
information was also handed to people in the suspect home.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Derald Lewis said they did a similar activity in
Courtenay and found it very effective, with the people leaving the
community fairly quickly.
Grace Doherty with the residents' association said people at the
homes took the opportunity to ask police a range of questions.
She added there is one change from the letter posted elsewhere.
