SIMPLISTIC POLICY
I am thoroughly disappointed with the government's new anti-drug
strategy. By choosing not to allocate any funds to harm reduction,
the Stephen Harper government is as effective in the fight against
drug abuse as the Pope, who discourages condom use, is in the fight
against the spread of HIV.
The safe-injection site does not create new drug users. It provides
drug users with an environment extremely effective in battling the
spread of disease.
The PM ought to be encouraging similar programs instead of basing
policy on the "just say no to drugs" lesson he was taught in elementary school.
It is not that simple. East Hastings is not a Grade Four classroom,
and any attempt to treat it like one is extremely dangerous.
