TODDLER HOSPITALIZED FOR EXPOSURE TO MARIJUANA

A 17-month-old boy remained hospitalized at Regional Medical Center
Wednesday after doctors detected marijuana in his body, police said. No
arrests were reported Wednesday night, as authorities continued to
investigate how the toddler was exposed to the illicit drug.

The drug levels found in the toddler were not known.

"We're not exactly sure if the child breathed in second-hand smoke or had
ingested the marijuana," said San Jose police spokesman Steve Dixon. "But
the child had marijuana in his system."

Police were called at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday to the hospital's emergency
room, where they found the toddler conscious and his parents angered by the
discovery, Dixon said. The toddler's parents, who both work late, had left
their son in the care of a nanny. A housemate also lives with the family.
When the mother returned home from work, the nanny reported the toddler was
ill and lethargic. The mother then took her son to the hospital where the
discovery was made.
