I DISAGREE

ONCE again Health Minister Bob Kucera, in defence of liberal cannabis
proposals, claims the State Government is carrying out the proposals of the
Community Drug Summit. The 100 members of the summit were mainly pro-drug
liberalisation supporters appointed to obtain the result the Government wanted.

The 500 written submissions were also part of community consultation on the
drug liberalisation plans of the Government. These submissions were not
tainted by Government or media influence and gave a vastly different
message to the State's lawmakers.

More than 70 per cent of the submissions rejected drug liberalisation and
harm reduction policies. Only 10 per cent supported liberalisation of drug
laws.

Why does the Health Minister insist the 100 appointed delegates have some
omnipotent status and the 500 public submissions have no relevance?

Even aside from the enormous criminal, health and social harmony problems
the Government's legislation will cause, it is very clear the vast majority
of people do not want the Government's proposed soft drug laws.
