Bruce Shapiro's article "Alarm Addictions" [May 9--15] neglected to answer
one question about this country's so-called war on drugs that's always
rather puzzled me: Why do you suppose Darryl Strawberry is popularly
considered a junkie scumbag and Robert Downey Jr. a poor helpless victim
with an illness?
