HAMILTON'S FOUR-LEGGED DEFENCE AGAINST DRUG CRIME
Waikato has a new four-legged defence against the rising volume of
drug-related crime.
Fourteen-month-old Jay, a labrador-cross bitch, has joined the region's
eight-strong dog squad in an attempt to put a dent in the drug-trade.
Jay is Waikato's first fully operational drug dog and has been specially
trained to sniff out cannabis, heroin, Ecstasy and methamphetamine.
She will be based in Hamilton but will work throughout the region on search
warrants, drug busts, drug-related crime and drug education in schools.
