THIS WAR WE CANNOT WIN

Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner ought to be congratulated for bravely
suggesting an end to the war on some drugs ("It may be time to end war on
drugs," May 15).

Our country has been spending billions of dollars on law enforcement in an
attempt to stop the use of plant-based drugs.

Turner is on the right track when he says we need to spend these billions
of dollars on education, treatment and job training.

Knowledge of the dangers inherent in drug usage will be the key to
decreasing our dependence on these harmful substances.
