MARC EMERY GETS SOME BREATHING ROOM
Hearing Will Be at End of the Year
Vancouver's "Prince of Pot" has a little bit of breathing room -- at
least until the end of the year.
B.C. Marijuana Party president Marc Emery was to appear in court today
for his extradition hearing to the United States. Instead, he will be
at a rescheduling hearing on Wednesday, he said. The actual
extradition hearing will be at the end of the year and he's glad for
the extra time.
"We can really use this delay," he said. "There are no good defences
we can come up with right now."
According to Emery, lawyers are negotiating a deal with prosecutors
that could see him serve his sentence in Canada instead of the U.S.
Emery and two others are facing up to life in prison in the U.S. for
selling marijuana seeds across the border.
