DRUG TESTING: INNOCENT HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR
Both of my kids attend school in Indiana, and both are in a college
scholarship program that covers tuition, and room and board for an entire
four-year bachelor degree program of their choice.
The hitch? They must agree not to use drugs or alcohol during their high
school years, and they must not have any criminal record at the time the
scholarship takes effect. Random drug testing is part of the program.
Even Wal-Mart tests all potential employees for illegal drug usage "even
though there is no reason to believe they have broken the law," as the
News-Leader said in its May 20 editorial on drug testing of Marshfield
students.
Drugs have no place in the workplace or schools. There once was a time when
the only people who feared the consequences of a law were the ones who were
guilty of breaking it.
If a kid isn't using drugs, they won't fear the results of a random drug
test, now will they?
