MISTAKEN RAID DEATH IS RULED A HOMICIDE
NEW YORK - The death of 57-year-old Alberta Spruill, who went into cardiac
arrest after a mistaken police drug raid on her Harlem apartment, was ruled
a homicide Tuesday by medical examiners.
An informant wrongly identified the apartment as one used by a drug dealer
to stash cocaine and heroin. During the May 16 raid, officers detonated a
flash grenade and handcuffed Spruill.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly transferred the commander of the precinct
whose officers raided Spruill's apartment.
