MAYOR'S DRUG SUMMIT MEETING TONIGHT IN KAPA'A
The fourth in Mayor Bryan Baptiste's series of "Drug Summits" is set for the
Kawaihau District tonight.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Kapa'a Elementary
School Cafetorium. It is expected to end at 8:30 p.m.
The federal "Weed & Seed" community anti-drug program is the main topic at
the meeting.
The Kawaihau District may be the first area on Kaua'i to receive federal
help through the "Weed & Seed" program. The program first brings in federal
law enforcement officials who clear an area of drug houses and drug dealers.
The second phase of the federal program brings in federal funds to
rejuvanate the community.
A committee needs to be formed to request the federal help before the
program can be instituted.
The next, and final, meeting of the series is scheduled for Saturday at the
Waimea Plantation Cottages from 8 a.m. to noon, with Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona to
be the keynote speaker.
Prior meetings have been held at Po'ipu, the Radission Kauai and at
Princeville.
