DRUG KIT WITHDRAWN
Wellington: The Commerce Commission has dropped an investigation into a
controversial drug-testing kit after it was taken off the market.
A commission spokeswoman said the investigation, launched after a complaint
by Green Party MP Nandor Tanczos, had been closed, as the kit had been
withdrawn from sale.
Mr Tanczos said the kits, marketed by Proveit, were not proved to be
accurate and could have caused hurt in families. "Even if one test out of
100 were false, that is still one family in 100 at risk of being torn apart
from the consequences of a false reading," he said in a statement.
The Parents Centre had earlier said it feared the drug-testing kit could
destroy relationships between parents and teenagers.
