LIVING THE 'HIGH' LIFE
Marc Emery
When Marc Emery and his then girlfriend Jodie set out to find some
new digs, the Yaletown apartment they now call home wasn't their
first choice, nor was it their second or third.
"You have no idea how having a battering ram through your door will
impact all your future real-estate transactions," says the Prince of
Pot, referring to his infamous 2005 DEA raid. "We got turned down by
12 places." However, it didn't take long for the modest one bedroom
(plus den) suite to grow on the happy couple.
"The great thing about this place is we got married while we were
living here, so we have lots of great memories," says the giddy
newlywed. "We have tons of fun here. It was one of those temporary
places that became permanent."
Their favourite room is the living room, which doubles as their media
centre -- not surprisingly Emery has a huge presence on MySpace and
Facebook. But checking their e-mail and watching the news aren't the
only activities that take place here.
"This is usually where we have sex," says Emery, who is on a roll
(say what you want about him, but the man is damn funny). "The
bedroom is very sterile -- she sleeps there and I've never been able
to sleep with anybody in my life so I sleep in the little side room."
Their prized possessions in this naturally bright, pea green space --
which has 20-plus wedding photos adorning its walls -- is their
couch, superstash coffee table and, of course, their ever-present bong
