PRESCRIPTION DRUGS CAN CAUSE DRIVER ERROR

Re "Hell on wheels," (editorial, May 30): I've heard many reasons for
continuing to punish marijuana users, but to urge a wait-and-see strategy
until the cops can easily measure the marijuana level of drivers is the
most bizarre yet.

Marijuana's use is commonplace right now and marijuana-induced motor
vehicle accidents are conspicuous by their absence.

There is no roadside test for any one of a number of prescription drugs
that can cause driver error. To be consistent, you should call for those
drugs to be banned as well.

Alan Randell

(For that argument to work, we'd have to think marijuana offered the same
benefits as prescription medicine -- we don't)
