POT PENALTY - 1 DAY IN JAIL
SAN FRANCISCO - A federal judge sentenced self-proclaimed "ganja guru" Ed
Rosenthal, 58, on Wednesday to a day in jail for growing marijuana in
violation of federal law, saying the pot advocate believed California law
allowed pot's cultivation. Convicted in January, he was also fined $1,300.
U.S. prosecutors had asked for a 6 1/2-year prison term.
In 1996, California voters approved a measure that allows sick people to
obtain marijuana with a letter from a doctor.
