UNDERAGE USERS WILL GAIN ACCESS

While reading through the editorials, I almost laughed out loud at the
statement in Rhys Boswarva's June 4 letter, "... by legalizing it we
can better control underage access to cannabis ..."

The ease in which cigarettes can be accessed by minors is direct proof
that legalization does not result in more control. The legalization of
cannabis would result in a higher availability for individuals
supplying youths. If anything the government should give its head a
shake, and realize that possession of cigarettes by minors should be a
finable offence.

How is it that it is illegal for them to purchase the cigarettes,
illegal to supply to a minor, yet legal for a minor to possess
cigarettes? Will this be the same case if cannabis is legalized? All
it will mean is that more underage users will gain frequent access to
the drug.
