CITY REPORT RECOMMENDS SHELTER FOR ADDICTS
While it has no site for a bridge house proposed by the Salvation Army, the
committee that was assigned to find an appropriate location has defined
some requirements for bridge houses in Abbotsford in general.
In its research the select committee, headed by Abbotsford Coun. Mark
Warawa, decided the community needed to include bridge houses or
second-stage housing for recovering addicts wanting to ease back into their
community but not ready for independent living.
The preferred areas would be in an urban residential area, though other
sites may be considered, Warawa noted in his report Monday.
The public will have the chance to comment on this new designation and
requirements at a public information meeting, in late June or early July,
and through a two-week period in which to submit written comments.
The council will then be asked to consider making zoning bylaw amendments
and a public hearing regarding the amendments could be held in August.
