MAN SENTENCED TO 16 1/2 YEARS FOR BEATING, ROBBING COUPLE
A man convicted of severely beating actress Drew Barrymore's half-brother
and his wife in Mountain View in May 2002 was sentenced Friday in San Jose
to 16 years and eight months in state prison. Michael Anthony Jordan, 19,
of Santa Clara, was arrested May 1, 2002, with five other teens after
beating John Barrymore III and his wife, Rebecca, with a trailer hitch
wrapped in a sock. Authorities believe Jordan and the others wanted to
steal Barrymore's marijuana plants, which he was authorized to grow for
medicinal purposes.
Jordan was convicted March 28 of two counts of attempted murder,
residential burglary, first-degree robbery, assault with a deadly weapon
and possession of a "slungshot" -- a heavy object with a flexible handle.
