POLICE AIR RAID ON DRUG RINGS

Residents of Merebank, south Durban, awoke to the sounds of a hovering
police helicopter and sirens today as a team of elite policemen from the
Task Team stormed the home of an alleged druglord.

Minutes later four members of one family - a mother and her three sons -
who were asleep at the time got the shock of their lives as they were taken
from their beds and placed under arrest. Four other men - believed to be
drug runners - were also arrested.

The arrest of the eight came after months of undercover detective work by
members of the Organised Crime Unit who had been systematically buying
mandrax tablets from the alleged druglord and his family to build a case
