TIME CANADIANS STOOD UP AGAINST AMERICANS
To the editor:
The political hypocrisy is alive and well as the public witnesses the
tragic comedy of parliament hill's production, Dude, Where's My Drug
Legislation? Their okey-dokey dance over decriminalizing marijuana
laws is do-see-do-ing with the already tense U.S. relations.
In reality, any believers in the "gateway drug theory" would find
respite with the Salem Witch generation. Yet, it can make you dumber,
slower and less alert--so does work.
"It can kill you!" Why do these people ignore alcohol and tobacco?
They never mention driving, flying, high cholesterol and sex because
they do not want to mess with the economy.
Their tunnel vision for scientific beliefs has categorized the
hallucinogenic with the narcotic thus equating the hippie burnout with
the rabid speed freak. Would you prefer facing a man holding a joint
or a man holding a beer bottle?
Our trust in our American allies is dissipating as they cry foul to
our new policies while turning a blind eye to their own states'
decriminalizing stances. Their concern is for the economy, not the
well being.
By following their schizophrenic stance, we are legislatively drowning
ourselves in our attempts to prove worthy to the unworthy.
Marijuana decriminalization has had its turn coming a long time ago.
Our dependency on the American economy has weakened our belief in our
own dollar. Perhaps by taking a stance against American wishes we may
strengthen global beliefs in our product above their product.
Our step back from the patriots began with each slight of disrespect
they flash at Canadians.
The arrogance of our allies' hypocritical imperialism needs to be put
in its place.
The difference in our cultures is becoming apparent and the American
entity is fighting us every step of the way.
