GREEN LIGHT FOR INJECTION SITE

Should I be a proud Canadian, as Mayor Larry Campbell suggests, because
Vancouver is opening its first drug-injection site?

Picture it: "Good Morning. Yes, you can go to the corner booth, here is a
clean needle, enjoy yourself, oh, and if you need any help, please don't
hesitate to ask."

"John" hasn't worked in years, but we can't ask how he got the money or from
whom he got his fix.

The registered nurse doesn't know his normal intake or the potency of his
drug, but will watch that he doesn't overdose, all for about $1.5 million a
year.

Does this mean if "John" accidentally overdoses can he or his family sue the
city? Will the paid staff create a database? Are we really helping him
overcome his addiction while he shoots up?

I hope the city will honestly let us know at the end of the first year how
many users have been rehabilitated and at what cost.
