JAIL TIME NEEDED TO PROTECT COMMUNITY FROM DRUG USERS
I applaud Judge Joseph Cardoza for what he's done recently to try to keep
our community safe.
He kept a pregnant woman in jail when she abused drugs after being arrested
for crashing her car into someone. He also kept in jail a man who used drugs
after being arrested for burning a young boy with a cigarette.
Drugs were part of both of these crimes that hurt innocent people. But even
after being arrested, these people continue to use drugs. Some people have
criticized the judge for keeping these people in jail without giving them
bail. Why should they be set free? So they can hurt other people again?
They've proved they can't be trusted to do what's right.
Every day, hundreds of people on Maui use "ice" and commit crimes that have
the potential to erupt in violence. At least Judge Cardoza is doing
something to try to keep these criminal addicts from hurting the rest of us.
Sometimes, punishment is the solution. We need more judges like Judge
Cardoza.
